More and more tourists are “cancelling” her choice tavernpreferring it cooking or the food in the hand, to save money. This is a change resulting from the rapid increase in the cost of living, both for Greeks and for those visiting the country from abroad.
According to his research IELKA (Consumer Retail Research Institute), there has been a decline in restaurant spending, with tourists choosing to cook at their accommodation or buy ready-made food from supermarkets and other outlets.
At the same time, it has increase in demand for self-catering accommodation, such as holiday homes and caravans, instead of hotels that offer full board or even half board. In fact, interest in them has also increased alternatives ways tourismsuch as staying on sailboats where there is the possibility to cook.
In the recent IELKA survey it was observed that more than half of Greeks (55%) will not take a vacation due to financial constraints.
At the same time, the 32% stated that he would he goes on vacation but with very limited financial meanswhile the 60% said their spending will be lower than in 2023.
The participants in his research IELKA also said they would cut back on holiday spending due to cruise (50%) and accommodation (48%) prices
