In just a few days, an attempt was made to take about 100 kilograms of such “souvenirs” from the island. A total of 41 Sardinian guests had to pay fines of up to 3,000 euros for this.
Sardinia is visited by millions of tourists every year, and since 2017, the law on beach theft provides for a fine of 500 to 3,000 euros. In some cases, attempts are being made to sell such “natural memorabilia” on the Internet while maintaining a thriving illegal market.
Bags of sand, shells and stones are confiscated at Sardinian airports for visitors and later returned by the authorities to the beaches, from which tons of sand have traveled over the years.
