Reported from Tigernine tourists from Sweden vacation to Thailand. They rented a boat in Than Bok Khorani National Park near Hong Island, Krabi Province.
It was a sunny day, they took a longtail boat. This tour boat has a long deck and a roof for sunbathing at the back of the ship.
The beauty of Thailand seems to hypnotize these tourists. They couldn’t wait to take their turn to take pictures and climb onto the roof of the ship together.
Due to this, the ship lost balance and capsized. Luckily, they were all wearing life jackets and no one was injured.
National park rangers immediately dispatched a rescue boat and helped the 9 tourists to shore.
After this incident, local journalists questioned the matter of adding a roof to the longtail ship. It is feared that the weight of the wooden roof will add to the weight of the ship and make the ship lose balance.
Actually the roof on a longtail boat is the result of a modification to make it more popular. But local residents disagree because it is not safe.
Residents urged the responsible agency to enforce strict ship modification rules.
