The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, announced this Thursday after meeting with the president, Luis Lacalle Pou, that foreigners who enter the country as of November will be able to receive a vaccine against covid-19 if they require it.
Viera reported that after the endorsement given by the president, “it will be possible to offer those who enter the country a vaccine (third dose)” and in particular mentioned the case of those under 18 years of age since in many countries they have not been vaccinated .
“It is good news in terms of the safety of our fellow citizens and it is also one more service that will be offered to tourists when they arrive in Uruguay,” explained the minister, who did not detail what conditions will be necessary to access the vaccine.
The Executive Power issued a new decree last week that modified the conditions for the entry of foreigners into the country.
In this line, the vaccination period prior to the application for entry was extended from six to nine months, and in turn, it was determined that the presentation of a PCR test carried out 72 hours before the processing at the border crossing will be required. .
In turn, tourists who prove a complete vaccination plan in the nine months prior to entering Uruguay and with the full term to achieve effective immunity will be exempted from isolation for one week.
These people must show the certificate issued by the health authority of their country of origin, which proves vaccination and deadlines, also avoiding taking a new test on the seventh day.
The new decree also establishes that those under 18 years of age must present the PCR test to enter the country, but they will be able to avoid the period of “preventive social isolation” by performing another PCR test seven days after entering the country. This test will be at the expense of the interested party, the statement said.
