A Brazilian visitor was shot in the leg last night during a confusing episode inside a store in Times Square, New York’s tourist and theater mecca.
The unidentified woman was at the JD Sports store at 1466 Broadway and 42nd St when three young men were arrested by private security for allegedly stealing commodity around 7:06 p.m., according to the NYPD.
The three suspects tried to flee and a guard chased them. At least one of the alleged thieves pulled out a gun and shot at the security employee, but the bullet hit the tourist instead. reported Pix11.

The three suspects fled running down 7th Avenue and They shot two more times. Two officers responding to calls for backup approached and the police were able to arrest one of them. The other two individuals have not been captured.
The police could not shoot the suspects because there were too many civilians around, authorities said. Even NYPD asked people to avoid the area for a few hourswhile the investigation continued.

Times Square has become an area of frequent violence and shoplifting, on the street and the Metro, even near police presence. At the end of January, several Hispanic immigrants were accused of beating two NYPD officers near a shelter and after being released by criminal reform, the case has become controversial, with comments even from the White House.
In July, a 50-year-old man with an extensive history of shoplifting was killed in a confrontation with a security employee at a CVS store in Times Square.
