– We have sent out a patrol and will call out volunteers to search for the man, the police in the West wrote on Twitter at 8.19pm on Saturday evening.
At 10 p.m., operations manager Eivind Hellesund tells VG that a rescue helicopter is assisting in the search. They have so far found no trace of the missing person.
The police are also working to get more volunteers on the scene.
– We are working to get hold of more people who can help with the search on the ground. As of now, there are less than ten people involved in the search operation.
The missing man is a tourist, and was going up to a glacier in Sunnfjord, but has not returned from the trip. He started with a tour group, but is said to have continued alone about halfway up the glacier.
– He was originally not supposed to go up on the glacier itself. But whether he has chosen to go out on the glacier or whether he has gone wrong, no one knows, says the operations manager.
He left the tour group around 3 p.m., and was supposed to be back at 6 p.m., says Hellesund. Other hikers are said to have followed the same route as the man, but have seen no sign of him.
The temperature in the area should be around 10–12 degrees, and the man should only be wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
