Tourist in Jakarta Charged Exorbitantly at Repair Shop, Sparks Police Intervention

Jakarta

One tourist felt unlucky when he was asked for a price by a repair shop in the area Feel, Bogor. This story was shared on social media and went viral.

How could it not be, the tourist admitted that he was asked to pay up to Rp. 2.7 million when servicing his motorbike. The tourist named Echa admitted that he was hurt.

At that time, Echa with her husband and children were on vacation in the Sentul area. While on the way, the motorbike driven by the husband suddenly had a problem.

Initially, Echa wanted to just change the oil at a price of Rp. 100,000. However, he admitted that he was offered repairs at a price of Rp. 2.7 million. Then he refused and was instead charged IDR 450,000 with installation fees.

“So I intend to change the oil so that it runs smoothly, I also use the motorbike every day for business. Every time I go to the repair shop it’s a little nice, it can run again. I’m trapped in a repair shop, which in my opinion is already criminal (extortion). There have been many victims too ,” wrote Echa, in her post, Tuesday (2/5/2023).

Police Visit Workshop

The police visited a motorbike repair shop in Sentul, Bogor, West Java (West Java), which went viral by asking tourists for prices. The police stated that they were ready to help resolve the problems that occurred.

“Regarding this, we ask consumers who are still dissatisfied with the incident to come to the Babakan Madang Police to solve this problem together,” said Babakan Madang Police Chief AKP Susilo Tri Wibowo to reporters, Tuesday (2/5).

“We are waiting at the Babakan Madang Police and we are ready to help solve this problem,” he added.

Susilo said he had visited the viral workshop because he was suspected of being price-conscious. He said that his party had made clarifications to the repair shop.

“We have visited the workshop to clarify the viral incident,” said Susilo.

Considered Lack of Communication

He said the repair shop claimed that the motorbike owner had been notified about the overheating condition of the motorbike engine, aka overheating due to running out of oil, and follow-up repairs. According to him, the consumer objected to the price which was considered too expensive.

“From the results of the communication we conducted with the repair shop, this happened due to a lack of communication from the start, between the consumer and the repair shop, regarding the work on dismantling the parts for the vehicle that had already been dismantled,” said Susilo.
