ZAGREB – Tourists complain about high prices in Croatia almost every day. The hosts warn them to check the prices in the price list before ordering. However, it seems that they are unpleasantly surprised only after the meal.
Young tourist Teona from New York posted her unpleasant surprise on the island of Hvar on TikTok and Instagram. According to her, her profession is a blogger who writes about fashion, beauty and travel. She praised the accommodation on Hvar, as well as the island itself, and published a positive review. “The city is beautiful. And the Adriatic Sea is beautifully blue,“ she wrote. In addition to Hvar, she also visited Korčula and Dubrovnik.

On Thursday, Teona posted a photo of the account from the end of July on the popular social network. Together with her friends, she visited one of the most prestigious restaurants in Hvar. She and her company ate black risotto, cuttlefish, fried octopus, fish brodet (steamed seafood), captain’s drink, and they also drank Greek wine and mineral water. Couvert was included in the price. Everyone praised the food as excellent. But the bill in the amount of more than 402 euros took their breath away.

I wonder what the bill would have been if we’d said we were really hungry.” Some social media users agreed with her that the price was excessive, but there were also those who criticized her. “Have you sat down in the middle of the season at a fancy restaurant in a lucrative location, eaten half a sea, and then been surprised by the bill?” Others added that they have never walked into a restaurant without checking the price list first. “What you ate and drank is not even worth 50 euros,” concluded a certain tourist.
