The tourists themselves caused the avalanche, having passed there. The snow was not stable, the head of the Mountain Rescue Service (MSS) in Borovets, Angel Kerkelev, told BTA.
He commented on the tragic incident in which today a tourist was buried and died in an avalanche in Borovets.
Kerkelev indicated that, according to him, the buried was at a depth of about 1.60 centimeters. The tourists made a mistake by going on this track where it is not allowed, he pointed out.
In his words the signal of three buried by an avalanche was given at 2:10 p.m. Two of them managed to get out of the snow by themselves.
He indicated that there is still no information about the personal data of the deceased.
Angel Kerkelev said that the rescuers and volunteers were about 25 people, and four dogs were also involved in the operation.
The tourist was found using a RECCO device. The buried person was found around 7:30 p.m.
Kerkelev added that the other two tourists are fine.
