This Saturday, June 4, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), the replica of the Cosquer cave opened its doors to the public. This summer, Marseille is counting on its cultural heritage to attract a large number of curious people.

It was a highly anticipated event. This Saturday, June 4, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) the replica of the Cosquer cave was inaugurated with great fanfare. This reconstruction tells a 30,000-year-old story, 500 paintings of prehistoric animals and meticulously reproduced engravings. Discovered in 1985 by Henry Cosquer, the original cave cannot be visited, but this reproduction delights the greatest number. “It’s indescribable, it’s pure emotion”explains a very moved visitor.
If this replica can attract 600,000 more people a year, Marseille has already imposed itself, thanks to its setting and its cultural offer, as one of the most popular tourist places in France. Five million people visited the city in 2021. The Panier district and the Old Port are atypical places that people want to discover. European Capital of Culture in 2013, Marseille has increased its cultural offer over the years. Hotels and accommodation sites are rubbing their hands against such mass tourism.
