Vienna (OTS / RK) – The official accommodation statistics published annually in autumn provide information on how the hotel and bed supply has changed in a long-term comparison. The current stock statistics show 347 establishments with 63,363 beds.
The inventory statistics published in October 2021 allow statements to be made for the first time about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the number of beds in Vienna’s hotels and pensions: The current inventory statistics record 347 companies with 63,363 beds. The number of beds decreased by 8% compared to the previous year (minus 5,100 beds in absolute terms) and the number of hotels available by 16% (minus 64 establishments in absolute terms).
Declines are mainly recorded in smaller 4 * and 3 * hotels and pensions, as the discrepancy in the relative reduction between beds and establishments shows. At the same time, eleven new establishments with a total of 3,400 beds have opened. The range of 5 * hotels remained unchanged.
In total, around 59,500 hotel beds were offered in Vienna in November 2021, around 10,000 more than in November 2020. This corresponds to around 90% (88.4%) of the beds available in November 2019.
Further businesses of all sizes and categories are opening continuously. According to the current state of planning, according to records from Vienna Tourism, there will be more beds in two years than before the pandemic.
About the stock statistics
The legal basis of the accommodation statistics is the Tourism Statistics Ordinance. Part of this ordinance is the uniform annual population statistics collected by every municipality throughout Austria. The collecting body in Vienna is the MA23.
