Tourism in Bulgaria: A Growing Industry with Increasing Numbers of Visitors

“I rarely see so many people. It has everything. In a day, about 550,000 people pass through the municipality of Nessebar. The police guard 450,000. It is a huge organization. Bulgaria appears as a fairly stable destination because it serves a lot of people. It’s not just hotels here and restaurants, all sectors of the economy are affected. The feeling is that we are complaining that tourists are less, but in numbers they are coming out more. Every month we end up with 7-8% more,” said the director of the Institute for Analysis and Evaluation in tourism Rumen Draganov pred Bulgaria ON AIR.

Many people rely on last-minute offers, which will be 30% cheaper in August.

According to him, this year there are people who have been to the Bulgarian sea several times.

“I meet a lot of people who have been at sea more than 2 times. Some of them even 5-6 times. Business is working, people are a little busier, some leave their families here and come back to work. Others they come almost every weekend since the beginning of June. We have quite intense trips. But the moment clouds and rain appear, it immediately leads to a caravan of cars and traffic jams on the roads,” said Draganov.

He said that new and new hotels are being built.

“The strategy of the municipalities is to fight the competition and displace the weaker one. There is nothing to be surprised that some will go out of business. The state of Bulgaria must see what its ownership of tourist values is. The Ministry of Tourism does not have a single site that is it’s his property. And when a tourist goes, a grill with 2 kebabs with side dishes and beer costs 11 BGN, the most expensive is turbot – 39 BGN. Of course, there are also expensive places, but they are described.”
