The commitment of the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week to bring the Passion of this year inside the temple of San Nicolás brought with it the installation of explanatory signs on each of the chapels and the rest of the landmarks that the church has. “We are going to extend this to the cloister. We have opened the doors and visitors demand more information about everything we have. We have commissioned the editor Benjamín Lebrato with new explanatory posters for the outside, ”says Alfonso López Menéndez, the parish priest of the town’s temple.
The limits of the visits are the constant disinfections. “We open at 10.30. We have the doors open until 1:00 p.m. That is when we proceed to disinfection. Not in the morning, because we do it at night ”, says the priest.
The magnet for tourists of San Nicolás de Bari is varied: “We have pilgrims who listen to mass or who remain in the temple with peace of mind. And then there are those who come in and out so as to say that they have been. The fact is that we receive many visitors and we want to continue receiving them ”, says the priest.
What is experienced in San Nicolás de Bari with intensity, in San Antonio (the old one of Los Padres) is amplified: “It is the oldest building in Avilés, Pedro Menéndez is buried and, furthermore, it is always open,” says López Menéndez. The church on Calle de la Ferrería is the seat of Perpetual Adoration. “But we also noticed it in the chapels of San Pedro de Rivero and in that of Galiana,” he adds. And it is that tourism enters the temples.
