Mexico City., Employment in the tourism sector is at an all-time high. At the close of the second quarter of the year, the employed population in the Mexican sector rose to 4 million 861 thousand people, which represented 9 percent of total national employment, announced the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
“The recovery in tourism employment continues, which in the period from April to June 2024 had a growth of 0.6 percent in its quarterly comparison, which is equivalent to the creation of 29,488 new jobs, compared to the 4 million 831 thousand people employed reported in the previous quarter,” the agency said.
According to the agency, in its annual comparison, tourism employment registered an increase of 148,058 people employed in the tourism goods and services production sector, equivalent to a growth of 3.1 percent compared to the second quarter of 2023.
Sectur added that tourism employment during the second quarter of 2024 exceeded by 8.3 percent or 373,496 people the historical figure registered for personnel employed in the tourism sector in the first quarter of 2020, prior to the pandemic, when 4 million 487 thousand employed people were registered.
