(ty) A 37-year-old man who was riding what he thought was an e-bike was charged with a crime in the city of Pfaffenhofen yesterday evening. As the local police station reported today, the man was riding the bike in the area of the main square at around 7:30 p.m. and then crossed the path of patrol officers in the direction of Scheyerer Strasse. They then stopped the cyclist and subjected him to a serious traffic check.
During the inspection, it was determined “that the e-bike is to be classified as a moped due to its technical design.” The 37-year-old, who lives in the district town, does have the relevant driving license, according to a police spokesperson. “But he had not taken out insurance for the vehicle, so criminal investigations had to be initiated against him.” This is a violation of the so-called Compulsory Insurance Act.
