Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič resigned from this year’s Tour de France. His Jumbo Visma team announced this before Sunday’s 9th stage from Cluses to Tignes (144.9 km). The thirty-one-year-old racer was eliminated from injuries after two falls, which he suffered in the first three stages.

Although examinations did not reveal fractures, he suffered numerous bruises and scratches, especially on the left side. Roglič was one of the favorites at the event after last year’s second place. However, after heavy falls, there has been speculation as to whether he will be able to complete the race at all.
He still managed to compete in Wednesday’s time trial and took 7th place with a 44-second shortfall, but gradually lost his breath and on Saturday came third from the end with a loss of more than 35 minutes. “It was a joint decision. There is no point in continuing. Now I will focus on recovery and other goals,” quoted by Roglič portal cyclingnews.com.

According to him, the fall in the third stage may be responsible for the resignation, although he was not aware of its seriousness at first: “I didn’t look too far ahead. It’s always a specific moment and an effort to get through it. And so it was, I tried to go day by day. But the pain was too much. I’m disappointed, I didn’t plan it, but I have to accept it. “
