The Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates took a giant step on Saturday to revalidate his victory in the French race.
The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) took a giant step to revalidate his victory in the Tour de France after the dispute this Saturday of the first of the two Alpine days, in a stage won alone by Belgian Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Victorious).
Pogacar, fourth in the stage, dynamited the race with a powerful attack on the ascent to the penultimate pass of the day, Col de Romme, and at the finish line he surpassed a group led by the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz at 3:20 and in which Spanish Enric Mas and Colombian Rigoberto Urán were also traveling.
Belgian Wout van Aert, second overall at the start, lost almost five minutes to Pogacar and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, who was the race leader at the start of the stage in Oyonnax, gave up more than 21 minutes into the goal with respect to the Slovenian.
In the general classification, Pogacar is the new leader of the race with 1:48 advantage over Van Aert, which maintains its second place.
Third is Kazakh Alexey Lutsenko at 4:38, Urán is 4th at 4:46 in the yellow jersey and Danish Jonas Rasmussen is 5th at 5:00.
Sixth is Carapaz at 5:01 and Enric Mas eighth at 5:15.
