Lasvit has been producing trophies for the Tour for ten years. “Every year, the decoration technique is different, so that the winners always have an original related to the given year at home,” said designer Olah. The shape of the trophy resembles two cones facing each other, grinding decor to such a shape is a problem for grinders.
“This year, I wanted to pay tribute to tradition and history, but at the same time to project modern design techniques into it,” said the designer. The artist used a 3D model and the interweaving of lines he knows from car design. “I wanted to test it on a real object and create such a network using a grinder,” he added. Olah tuned the grinding in collaboration with glass technologists. However, the strictly geometric decor was particularly demanding and it took an experienced grinder three days to grind a single trophy.
