2020 was to be the year of Berywam. A first album and a huge tour were planned but the health crisis swept everything in its path.

Unable to rediscover the joys of the stage, the Toulouse quartet (composed of Beatness, Rythmind, Wawad and Beasty) takes advantage of their free time to create many videos on social networks. Whether playful, artistic or humorous, the short videos of world champions of beatbox have found their audience. And some have even traveled the world.

And yet, by the admission of Wawad, “2020 was a rotten year, as for everyone. The album is ready but we just want to wait for the right moment to give ourselves the maximum of chances, because we saw that even big artists have had disappointing sales lately. Our album should arrive in a few short months, in the spring of 2021. And in the meantime, our strategy has been to develop our networks“, Explains the artist to Toulouse news.

With more than 4.3 million subscribers on Tik Tok, Berywam is now in the top 5 France on this popular social network among young people. On Youtube, the group is followed by 2.2 million people, and on Instagram, Berywam has passed the milestone of one million subscribers. Phenomena, we tell you!

With Berywam, nothing is left to chance

Nothing is left to chance: the group attracts new fans thanks to its viral videos in which the four boys use their talents to imitate everyday noises.

At the same time, Berywam does not hesitate to resume international successes in their own way, that is to say a capella, which does not fail to react the artists concerned, like Shakira, recently.

“We went from almost 0 to 4 million subscribers in six months”

“We have fun. We don’t take ourselves seriously. And if we can bring 30 seconds of happiness to people at a time when everyone needs it, it’s won! », Comments WaWad.

Frankly, we didn’t expect to make such a big buzz on some platforms, like Tik Tok, for example. It’s pretty incredible so many subscribers! Tik-Tok, we were a little too lazy to get started (before the crisis, editor’s note), because we had concerts, tours and we didn’t have time to immerse ourselves in it. We started at the beginning of 2020 but we have been really into it since September. And in 6 months, we went from almost 0 to 4.4 million. It’s pretty incredible, especially since we are not tiktokers. It is not our job!

And beyond the millions of views, being present on Tik Tok has enabled Toulouse residents to meet beautiful people. “It gives us a lot of visibility, contacts. We receive messages from artists from all over the world, foreign media also take over. We even went on Indian TV! », Smiles the Toulouse beatboxer.

“Not just guys who imitate rough ones”

And in parallel, the group also offers formats that appeal to their fans from the first hour, like the program « No Instrument », broadcast on Youtube. “We set up this concept last fall,” continues WaWad. We have three hours to create a sound from A to Z, without instrument. We are also committed to showing people, and especially our new fans, that we are artists above all, and not just guys who imitate noises in videos ”.

“We found the right formula”

In this period when artists cannot perform, social networks are a kind of oxygen bubble for the group. “We found a good formula and it gives us energy. Last year, we were mentally ill. We were coming out of two or three years of intense touring with Bigflo and Oli and with our tours. Our life was a whirlwind of travel and concerts. And overnight, we were home for months and months. Developing our networks has given us new momentum, ”says Wawad.

But like all artists, beatboxers are in a hurry: go back on stage. “We had postponed the tour to spring 2021, but we’re not going to lie to each other, it smells very bad! This will undoubtedly be shifted again. We know, we are not the most to be pitied. But it’s very complicated mentally of not knowing where we are going tomorrow. It is not known if theaters will reopen soon or in a year. Artists and the world of culture, we are a bit forgotten, ”explains Bigflo and Oli’s best friend.

But Berywam does not despair of finding the paths of the stage, and in particular of the Bikini, where a big concert is still in the cards. “The Bikini was already almost full last year, and we saw that the vast majority of people kept their seats for our concert. We are happy to have this support in Toulouse, that means a lot to us! », Concludes Wawad.
