Toulouse: the WateRugby lands on the Garonne for the third consecutive year

You were waiting for him, he’s back! Rugby on a barge in the middle of the Garonne. With mandatory dives!

The WateRugby is setting the scene for a third edition. A moment of sport for the Pink City which will welcome many rugby fans, but also international players from all over the world. An event that Yann Delaigue, the founder, was impatiently awaiting. “Today, we can meet again (despite the pandemic). I want there to be smiles on every face. The promotion of rugby involves fun and a smile. This was the case for the first two editions, we want it to continue ”.

This year, the program announces some new features with 5 rugbywomen! And not just any international ones: “Those who won a silver medal at the Olympics”. Vice-Olympic Champions of the French rugby sevens team will be at the rendezvous: Fanny Horta, Lina Guérin, Coralie Bertrand, Shinon Izard and Chloé Jacquet will face each other at the opening of the tournament. A little music with a concert by the group Rockaway which uses popular songs from the 80s. And the broadcast on a giant screen of the Top 14 Stade Toulousain-RC Toulon match on Sunday evening.

Basically, an idea for a barge

If rugby has had several remakes with Beachrugby (on the beach) or rugby on snow, WateRugby has succeeded in its bet: to please the Toulouse public, but not only! Indeed, the event is requested by several municipalities: with the 2023 Rugby World Cup, which also hopes to welcome a large number of visitors. For now, the WateRugby will remain a specific feature of the Pink City until 2023.

Beautiful people and a rich program

Dimitri Yachvili, Vincent Clerc, Julien Bonnaire, Sylvain Marconnet, Fabrice Estebanez, Simon Shaw, Mauro Bergamasco, John Beattie or Census Johnston will be present to offer 3 days of show.

The festivities begin this Friday, September 10 with a tournament dedicated to businesses. On Saturday and Sunday, it’s the turn of the general public to taste the joys of rugby on the water thanks to the WateRugby Amateur tournament which takes place throughout the day. The youngest are not forgotten with an edutainment initiation supervised by international players in the afternoon. In the early evening, make way for specialists with the famous EAU’LL STAR Tournament, bringing together 4 teams of international rugby stars from the last 3 decades.
