The Toulouse Basket Club has just finalized its recruitment. After the arrivals of Dadier (back), André (inside) and Meite (inside) at the end of June, the Toulouse club announced the arrival of playmaker-back Samir Mekdad, a 35-year-old Franco-Algerian (1m88) born in Montfermeil ( 93). The Algerian international will bring all his experience to him who finished sixth in the Afro Basket 2015, organized in Tunisia alongside Fayçal Sahraoui whom he will therefore replace within the Toulouse collective.
During his career, Samir Mekdad has known several Pro B clubs (Limoges, Brest, Evreux, Le Havre, Rouen), NM1 (Challans, La Rochelle, Berck, Rueil and Chartres where he played last season) and will find Stéphane Dao who had directed him during his visit to Sorgues (NM1).
Last season the former U21 of Le Havre, then a Pro A club, lined up a line of statistics of 8.3 points (at 36.1% shooting success), 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists of average in 23 minutes of playing time. In 2021 he participated in the Arab Cup of Champions Clubs, played in Egypt, under the colors of Widad Adabi Boufarik.
Another newcomer to the TBC, it is under the circle that the last major recruit of the summer will shine. This is the position 4 Senegalese Papé Maguet Diop (2m04, 26 years old) formed within the Seed Academy, the Senegalese basketball academy for student-athletes, then in NCAA where he played for the Lions of the Southeastern Louisiana University.
In 2021-2022, he played in Georgia for TSU Tbilisi, the club of the State University of the former Soviet republic, and concluded the season with a stat line of 10.5 points (52.8% of shooting success) and 8.9 rebounds on average in 24 minutes of playing time.
Toulouse Basket Club’s NM1 squad will be completed by young full-back Axel Courthial (he will turn 21 in November) who arrives from Vichy-Clermont, where he played in U21, and who will be one of the major players of the hopefuls promoted to NM3 .
