The last phase of the national education council of the region (CDEN), held on Friday September 6, confirmed eight class openings in Haute-Garonne. In total, during the various CDENs, 139 classes were closed for 111 openings.
Traditionally, after the beginning of the school year, the academic examination of Haute-Garonne, which made a final census of students, does not decide on the closure of new classes at the 1st level. The tradition was respected, Friday September 6 during the last phase of the regional council of national education (CDEN), the trust of the academic director of national education services (Dasen) Arnaud Leclerc who announced the opening of eight classes in the region, none in Toulouse is losing numbers.
In total, in the different stages of the CDEN of the 2023-2024 school year, the department lost 139 classes and gained 111, according to figures presented by the study. This, despite the many movements of parents of students in schools at risk of losing class. For information, the Pink City lost more than 600 students at the beginning of the school year compared to last year. In some cities, such as Tournefeuille, the situation is more than weather.
The demographic decline
“We never close classes in September, out of respect for the teachers who have prepared their educational series and sessions for the year,” explained Arnaud Leclerc. In addition to the 139 closures mentioned, the academic management wants to identify several additional position openings: for Rased (a special support network for students in difficulty), school psychologists, etc. For Dasen, “a way to find a balance”, although a teaching position has not been created at the first level as a result, among other things, of the great demographic decline in the 800 public schools in the Haute-Garonne which puts welcomed a total of 119,993 students. A “new” context, according to Dasen who remembers that the demographics had increased in previous years.
The unions called a strike on September 10
However, on the teaching unions side, the story is different and the methods are not yet there. They are against a “knowledge panic”, rejecting national assessments and estimating the lack of teachers at 3,000 in the sector, mainly to “reduce class sizes”. The “emergency plan” requested by the unions also aims to recruit 500 disabled students (AESH) “with real status and reasonable salary”, 300 AED (supervisors) and enough “medical staff” numbers.
What happened to candidates who failed the CRPE
“Not giving our students national assessments, it’s really our hierarchy, which confuses the average and the maximum, that we need to assess to do on their calculation skills”, ironically mocking Snuipp-FSU 31. The latter wants teachers to go on strike on September 10 and demonstrate against national assessments.
“If necessary, we will call the additional list…”
However, regarding the number of teachers with tenure in the department, Dasen says that he is ready to make an effort towards the 46 candidates for the school teacher competition on the joint list and who want the ion -selectivity. “We received a delegation with the ambassadors, during a long and constructive exchange, he explains. Some guardians ask for it. Every month, we report to the ministry about needs for additional positions. In addition, the study employed 68 contract workers.
