Superb performance of the Toulousains who impose themselves in Chartres during the beautiful, this Sunday. A success that opens the door to the quarter-finals where they will find the formation of Caen.
Toulouse created the surprise, Sunday in Chartres, by winning in match 3 of the round of 16 play-off of NM1 (72-85). The Toulousains will play the first leg of the quarterfinals against Caen on May 12.
For the second year in a row, the CCBM is eliminated from the play-offs in the round of 16. Faced with Toulouse, an inferior opponent on paper, Chartres did not know how to put enough intensity to finally bow during this “beautiful”, to Jean-Cochet (72-85). The Toulousains, who shone, dominated a CCBM that was too shy.
The start of the match was however dominated by Chartres. By leading 11-1 in the 4th minute, the CCBM seemed to get into the game well. It was without counting on a Toulouse team a notch above physically. After coming back to score by beating Chartres with a 10-0 (11-11, then 13-11, 6th), Toulouse then never let go of the reins of the match.
By setting up their usual all-terrain defense, coach Dao’s men caused a lot of problems for Euréliens who were embarrassed in the ball comeback. Moatassim Rhennam’s proteges could have stayed in contact, but the Haut-Garonnais took the physical and psychological advantage in the second period. On the rebound, the C’Chartres BM has often suffered, especially after numerous free throws missed by an André who was however stratospheric (17 points, 10 rebounds).
In the third quarter, the former Chartrain Samir Mekdad hurt the CCBM behind the three-point line (56-67, 23rd). Bouloukouet Craion’s outings for five fouls hurt. Deprived of his two best shooters, in money-time, the mission was complicated for Chartres.
C’Chartres BM still believed in it, returning to five points from Toulouse (72-77), 2’30” from the end of the match. But Kimbrough killed all hope by scoring a freeing three-pointer. The CCBM, too timid yesterday, did not manage to catch up and therefore left the play-offs in the round of 16, like last year. A suprise. A qualification in quarter which resonates like an exploit for Toulouse.
