The side canal at the Garonne, who links Toulouse in Castets-en-Dorthe (Gironde), will be the subject of major works during the coming weeks.
Eight weeks of work
Since January 4 and until February 28, 2021, “the period of ‘unemployment’ of the lateral canal to the Garonne and the Montech canal to Montauban will allow heavy work to be carried out, in order to limit the impact on activities. economic and navigation ”, explains VNF (Voies Navigables de France), in charge of the management of the Canal du Midi and the lateral canal.
Very diverse works
The work carried out is very diverse: lock gates repair, waterproofing and masonry work… “We also take advantage of the emptying of the reaches – a reach is the area of the canal between two locks, editor’s note – to remove the objects that have been thrown there,” says VNF.
Here are the reaches in Haute-Garonne affected by these emptying works:
- Partial emptying of the Lalande lock at the Lacourtensourt lock
- Total emptying of the Lacourtensourt lock to the Fenouillet lock
- Total emptying of the Fenouillet lock at Lespinasse.
Other reaches are also concerned in the Tarn et Garonne (to consult the complete list, meet here)
All the trades involved
During these eight weeks, “all the trades are mobilized to carry out all of this work. The works are prepared several months in advance, in order to optimize specific interventions on the canal, ”VNF added.
