How will this unique mode of transport change transport habits?
It must be understood that the urban cable car is not an end in itself. Téléo alone would be insufficient. It is a link in the southern public transport belt which, like the third line in the north, will inaugurate transverse lines which will complete the current star-shaped metro network. Thanks to Téléo, we can connect Colomiers to Montaudran by public transport: when the cable car is put into service, a Linéo bus will connect Colomiers to Oncopole, then after taking Téléo, the passenger can reach Montaudran using a other Linéo bus. This will be done with a single ticket, valid on a route combining, bus, cable car, metro or tram, provided that this journey does not exceed one hour. A traveler from Portet can also connect Paul-Sabatier in ten minutes instead of 40 minutes by car via the ring road.
What is the upcoming construction schedule?
The installation stage of the five pylons is now behind us. We arrive at the phase of unwinding and tensioning the cables by means of a Super Puma helicopter and drones, which will take place in November, outside of the bird nesting period. The arrival of the booths is scheduled for early 2021. I will soon be going with Denis Bacou, vice president of Tisséo Collectivités, to the Poma headquarters for the delivery of the first booths. Installation and commissioning are scheduled for summer 2021. We hope to be able to borrow Téléo for the 6,000 visitors expected at Gart, the largest transport fair at Meett, in September.
What do you say to those who fear that this mode of transport cannot be used permanently in our region due to the wind?
The cable car is designed to withstand winds blowing at 108 km / h. We carried out a meteorological study over a period of twenty years, concerning Toulouse, which concluded that the risk of exceeding was only two days per year. And not two days continuously. The 3S system, where the cabs run as support on two cables, the third being used for towing, is also much more stable than the single-cable system. There is less sway in very strong winds. It is a proven system that has worked for years elsewhere. And ours will be even better because it is more recent and modern.
