Toulouse: Beate and Serge Klarsfeld in the honor of a new exhibition at the Departmental Museum of Resistance & Deportation

From October 22, the Departmental Museum of Resistance & Deportation in Toulouse is hosting a new exhibition. Entitled Beate and Serge Klarsfeld, the battles of memory (1968-1978), it recreates a decade of fights worn by the Klarsfeld couple.

Designed by the Shoah Memorial and presented in Paris in 2017 and 2018, the exhibition Beate and Serge Klarsfeld, the battles of memory (1968-1978) will therefore be presented at the Departmental Museum of Resistance & Deportation from October 22 to May 8, in Toulouse.

From the founding act of the slap or the tribune, to the verdict of the Cologne trial of February 11, 1980, where the conviction of the main Nazi officials of the Final Solution in France, the exhibition looks back on the battles waged by the couple.

A spotlight on the couple and the victims of the Holocaust in Haute-Garonne

The exhibition presented at the Departmental Museum of Resistance & Deportation brings together panels retracing the major stages in the life of the Klarsfeld couple, archival photographs or even original objects (personal and family portraits, investigative objects, pieces of files and trials, glasses and iconic clothes…).

It will also highlight the victims of anti-Semitic persecution in Haute-Garonne, the mechanisms of repression that organized the Shoah, but also those who fought against Nazism and the collaboration of Vichy. A large panel more than 4 meters long will present, like a trombinoscope, some of the 168 Jewish children deported from Haute-Garonne.

Around the exhibition, three films will also be screened during this exhibition: “The Combat of a Woman” (Newspaper Actualité Gaumont. 1973), “Beate and Serge Klarsfeld. Les combats de la mémoire, 1968-1978 ”, directed by Olivier Lalieu and Benoît Sourty, as well as the press conference by Beate Klarsfeld, broadcast in the 20h00 TV news (Office national de broadcasting television française, 1972).
