For almost a week, it has paralyzed a good part of world trade … Tuesday March 23, 2021, the Ever-Given container transporter got stuck diagonally on the Suez Canal, in Egypt.
This passage is strategic for the economy of the planet since it makes transit 10% of world maritime trade, by making it possible to connect the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean, while avoiding having to bypass Africa.
A gigantic ship
So inevitably, when a ship of 400 meters long and over 200,000 tonnes totally obstructs a narrow canal like that of Suez, traffic jams form. TheFrance Media Agency indicates that 425 boats were stuck, Monday, March 29, at the ends and in the middle of the canal.
On Monday, the Canal Authority (SCA) announced that the boat had been handed over to 80% in the “right direction”. While waiting for the return to normal, some had fun creating a site to simulate the presence of Ever-Given anywhere in the world. And at Toulouse, the boat would not go unnoticed …
More than three times the Place du Capitole
This simulator, available on the website evergiven-everywhere.glitch.me allows to realize the size of this container carrier, much larger than the Place du Capitole.
