Toulouse: a resident receives an astronomical housing tax by mistake

No less than 39,500 euros. This is the amount of the bill received by a resident of the Lardenne district in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) at the beginning of last week, tells us The Dispatch. It is not a regularization, but the sum that the tax authorities summon him to pay in respect of the housing tax for the year 2021. A surprise that first made him smile , especially since it is supposed to be exempt from tax.

But, very quickly, the joke will give him cold sweats, because on the schedule of Public Finances the amount is indeed displayed, with a payment in ten installments to be made for the months of January to October. Each time, he will have to pay 3,590 euros per month. “I saw 3,590 euros, at first I laughed, telling myself that there was a problem, and then I looked at the schedule…” she says.

An “input error”

The other cold shower is that on the schedule presented the Public Finances specify that the samples will be taken from January 17, the account of the Toulousaine being ready to be debited. Neither one nor two, the citizen disputed the notice received and made a report to Public Finance. Luckily for her, it was a mistake. La Dépêche explains that an internal investigation was carried out and that a “data entry error” had been made. The retiree received the good news on Friday January 14 and therefore will not have to pay the 39,500 euros.

In July, a similar case was brought to light in Amiens, as Capital echoed it. A student who lived in a studio had received a letter from the tax authorities asking her to pay 7,000 euros. The invoice was actually for a townhouse then transformed into a student residence, which the tax authorities had not heard of. If you notice an error concerning your residence tax, it is possible to dispute. More information on Capital.fr.
