Tough Rivalry in the Dubai Quran Contest, and a Cordial Invitation to Nominate Ahmed Omar Hashem for Islamic Personality of the Year

DUBAI, 2nd April, 2020 (WAM) — The ninth day of the Dubai International Holy Quran Competition in its twenty-sixth session, which is being held at the headquarters of the Culture and Science Symposium in Al Mamzar in Dubai, witnessed strong competition among 6 contestants for the first places.

The events were attended by Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, Advisor to His Highness the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Hareb, Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee, members of the committee, a number of officials, members of the consular corps and the audience following the competition.

Competing in memorization before the jury of the international competition with the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim: Safwan Senari from Burkina Faso, Shams al-Din Barthi from Madagascar, Imam Hassan Abu al-Hasan from Palestine, Abdul Hamid Jallow from Gambia, Abbas al-Hasan Muhammad from Ghana, and Abdel Rahman Diakiti from Gabon.

Yesterday, during a press conference held on the sidelines of the activities of the ninth day of the Dubai International Holy Quran Competition, Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem, former president of Al-Azhar University, was declared the Islamic Personality of the Year.

Counselor Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Hareb and members of the Organizing Committee for the Dubai International Holy Quran Award welcomed the selection of Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashem, the Islamic Personality of the Year, in appreciation of the great scientific efforts he made in service of Islam and the Prophet’s Sunnah.

Their eminences, members of the Dubai International Competition Jury, also expressed their envy and pleasure for this successful selection that happened to its people, appreciating the efforts of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, which contributed effectively to the interest in the Book of God and the service of its memorizers.

They also appreciated the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” and his relentless endeavor to promote the Dubai International Holy Quran Award and make it the largest in the world among its counterparts.
