After playing the first two days of group D, on El Espino beach, the teams from Chirilagua, Arcos del Espino and San Sebastián are in the first places in the classification by adding two victories each in the Beach Soccer League (LFP ) CEL Cup 2024.
Chirilagua managed to defeat El Cuco with a 7-1 win and then beat El Espino 4-2 in Sunday’s match.
While Arcos del Espino beat Warriors 5-4 and in the second game defeated El Cuco 8-2.
Regarding the results achieved at the beginning of this new LFP season, the goalkeeper of the national team and the Chirilagua team, Eliodoro Portillo, assured that the opponent they faced on Sunday was tough.
“The match against El Espino has always been complicated and now was no exception, but we managed to overcome the mistakes and took the victory with four goals. For us, from the moment it was decided to return to competition, we are clear that we have to improve and surpass results from previous years,” said Portillo.
Meanwhile, regarding the new format, Eliodoro stated that it is an extra for each team that always wants to be in the final stages and hopes to achieve it this year.
“This new format leaves something important: fighting to be in the first places. We know that we are one of the teams with which the league began and that is why we are going to continue working as before, three days a week and with very intense days,” indicated the Chirilagua goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, San Sebastián also added two victories this weekend. The first, a 7-2 against El Espino and, then, a 6-4 victory over Warriors 6-4 in overtime, which allowed them to win only five of the six points in dispute.
Elmer Robles, San Sebastián’s closer, assured that despite the two victories, the team has to improve to achieve it in regular time and win the three points.
“We did our job, but the opponent is a tough team and now we have to improve so as not to end the games in overtime. Warriors is our neighbor and we knew it was not going to be easy and the result makes it clear, there are players who were with us in the last tournament and that is why we consider them brothers,” Robles commented.
The national team also explained that the team will seek classification to the first category, one of the main format changes that came with the fourth season of the LFP.
“Now it will be a more difficult competition, since we all want to be in the first category and that is what we will look for in this new edition of the LFP. We worked in preseason for this debut and it was not that bad, so we will continue preparing for the following dates,” said Robles.
San Sebastián, in two days, already has Óscar Flores positioned at the top of the individual scoring with six scores.
