Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini shared his opinion on former Roma striker Francesco Totti.
“I played with Totti, although we were almost always rivals. I saw his matches in the Italian team before the 2006 World Cup, but then he left the team.
Francesco was truly great, and it is unfortunate that we did not see him play for other large teams, but that he devoted his life to Roma is romantic.
He won much less than he could. He was supposed to win the Golden Ball and probably deprived himself of the opportunity to develop, which occurs when the situation changes. However, if someone thinks that Totti was chasing comfort, then he does not understand anything about it. It was love.
Totti really could have won the Golden Ball before the era of “aliens” arrived – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. This award was received by players like Michael Owen and Shevchenko – great players, but certainly not superior to Totti.
Francesco had eyes on the back of his head, he could give such programs that no one could even think of. I saw his fantastic game: first it was determined by incredible physical fitness, and then – class, albeit at a reduced pace.
From the point of view of technology, character, vision of the game, Totti was a world-class footballer, simply a genius. Together with the naughty creator Antonio Cassano, he created one of the best tandems in the history of Roma, even the best. Pure poetry, ”Chiellini wrote in an autobiographical book.
