Zagreb –
Bad news is coming Dinamo Zagreb in preparation for the face Tottenham Hotspur of Europa League. His trainer Zoran Mamic was jailed for embezzlement.
Mamic’s resignation was not long after a Croatian court sentenced him to imprisonment of four years and eight months, Tuesday (16/3/2021) evening WIB. His replacement is former Dinamo player Damir Krznar.
“Although I do not feel guilty, I have declared that I will resign before the sentence is handed down. I wish the club all the best,” Mamic said on Dinamo’s official website.
Mamic was not alone in the tax evasion case because he was also involved in the former executive director of Dinamo and Mamic’s brother, Zdravko. The other two defendants are former employee of the Croatian tax office Milan Pernar and former director Dinamo Damir Vrbanovic.
Initially the high court sentenced Mamic to a more severe sentence, namely 6.5 years for embezzling club funds worth 18.26 million US dollars (116 million kuna) or around Rp 263 billion. Vrbanovic himself was sentenced to three years in prison.
The details of the charges are Mamic et al. has embezzled club taxes of Rp. 27 billion and pocketed a profit of around Rp. 263 billion from the sale of Dinamo players. Mamic has coached Dinamo for three periods, namely the caretaker (2013), then 2013-2016 and 2020-2021, with four Croatian League titles and one Croatian Cup.
This news certainly surprised Dinamo because in fact they were in preparation for facing Tottenham in the second leg of the Europa League last 16, Friday (19/3/2021) early morning WIB or we were at night local time.
Moreover Dinamo Zagreb had to catch up 0-2 from the first leg in London last week. Duh, what a nonsense Zoran Mamic.
