Tottenham are looking for more talent to add to the mix, and one name they almost acquired was Villareal’s Pau Torres.
According to AS, the Spurs were close to landing the 24-year-old center-back, but the only problem with that is that Torres was not in favor of joining Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
The report went on to say that Torres prefers to wait and hopefully get a bigger offer.
With the signing of Cristian Romero, it seems that all hopes of seeing Torres join the Spurs are now unlikely.
Torres has a buyout clause worth £ 56 million ($ 77 million), according to Sport.
Tottenham is not the only team linked to the Spanish player; Manchester United is another team allegedly interested in him.
The only problem is that, unlike the Spurs, the Red Devils have not yet made a concrete offer for the Villareal footballer.
Torres made 44 appearances for Villareal’s UEFA Europa League team last season, and was also a fixture for Spain during Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.
As for Tottenham, targeting more defenders is a possibility in the next transfer window.
Hotspur currently have a negative goal difference in the English Premier League, when the season began, they were able to keep three clean sheets in their opening games.
Regardless, Nuno may need more capable and quality players if Tottenham are to work their way back to the top.
In a previous report, Spurs have AC Milan’s Franck Kessie on their radar.
His chances at the 24-year-old midfielder got a big boost after Kessie landed £ 5.6 million ($ 7.9 million) per season offer from AC Milan.
Kessie is seen as someone who can fill the void left by Moussa Sissoko. The French player moved to Watford after reaching a two-year deal in August.
