Tottenham ‘one of three Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Rennes manager Bruno Genesio’ amid fears Conte may leave

TOTTENHAM are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Rennes manager Bruno Genesio amid fears Antonio Conte could leave the club.

The 52-year-old took charge of Spurs in November, but the Italian’s reign in north London has been a tumultuous one so far.

Conte threatened to leave Tottenham just four months into his reign following the club’s shock loss to Burnley in February.

And he has also vented his fury at the Spurs board for failing to live up to his ambition.

Additionally, the Italian has been courted by European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Spurs’ Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Lilywhites fear the former Chelsea manager could be influenced by a move elsewhere unless the club’s fortunes improve.

And Spurs are said to be preempting a sudden departure for Conte by fielding Rennes tactician Genesio as his potential replacement, according to French publication RMC Sport.

Genesio has been a revelation in the Ligue 1 side since taking over last year.

The fellow Ligue 1 qualifiers have moved into third place in the table this season under the 55-year-old’s tutelage, up from sixth place last season.

There is also a strong chance that Rennes will overtake Marseille for second place as they sit just one point behind their French counterparts with just nine games to go.

Rennes have done it in style too, winning 16 of 29 league games and scoring 63 goals so far, a record that not even the wide range of stars at PSG, or any other club in the division, have been able to match.

Although he could not find the goals to overcome Leicester City in the round of 16 of the European Conference League.

Genesio’s attacking style of play would be welcomed by the Spurs faithful, but they are not the only Prem side interested in the former Lyon manager.

Wolves and Everton are also monitoring Genesio’s situation in Rennes, along with La Liga sides Valencia and Real Sociedad, plus Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal, RMC state.

However, it is unlikely that Spurs and all other interested parties will be able to move Genesio away from Rennes this summer, as his contract with them expires at the end of the 2023 season.

And following their success at Roazhon Park, the Rennes bigwigs are said to be in talks to extend Genesio’s contract.

Speaking of Genesio’s importance to the club a few weeks ago, Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice said: “He has been on the coaching staff for more than 20 years.

“He rubbed shoulders with a large number of coaches with whom he got experiences, ideas in training and group management. It does not surprise me and I am very happy with what he is doing today.

Little by little he has managed to put a true quality of play with different players. There have been signings this summer. It is not easy to put things in his place but he knows how to do it perfectly.
