Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Antonio Conte for a new long-term contract.
The Spurs are confident they can reach a new agreement with the Italian coach.
Conte’s current contract with the North London club, agreed when he arrived in November last year, expires at the end of this season. But there is an option within that contract to extend it.
The former Juventus midfielder impressed after moving to Spurs, guiding them to a top four, and his team started this season in good shape. He is third in the Premier League and has in his hands the hope of moving on to the next stage of the Champions League in view of Tuesday’s match against Marseille.
Conte also oversaw a notable turnaround on Saturday when Spurs fell 2-0 at Bournemouth after 57 minutes and won the match 3-2.
Convincing Conte to extend his stay could also see him stay with Spurs for more than two seasons. The last time the Italian stayed longer in a job was at Juventus between 2011 and 2014. He has never led a club for more than three years.
