Manchester United failed to maintain a two-goal advantage when they visited the headquarters Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The Red Devils have to go home with a score of 2-2.
Tottenham vs Man United took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Friday (28/4/2023) in the morning WIB. The Red Devils led 2-0 in the first half through goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
Tottenham just got up in the second half. As a result, the match was able to finish with a score of 2-2 after Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min broke into David De Gea’s goal.
This result did not change the position of the two teams in the Premier League standings. United are still fourth with 60 points and Tottenham are right behind on 54.
Course of the Match
The Red Devils played Bruno Fernandes from the early minutes. The Portuguese midfielder had an ankle problem a few days ago.
Man United already led 1-0 in the seventh minute. Jadon Sancho successfully tore Fraser Forster’s goal after directing the ball horizontally at the far post.
Tottenham tried to react after the goal was conceded. The club from North London’s first shot came in the 12th minute through Richarlison, but the ball was still handled by David De Gea.
Sancho almost doubled the score in the 19th minute. His first shot was blocked by Cristian Romero, then Sancho’s second attempted ball was cleared with Ivan Perisic’s header on the goal line.
Tottenham struggled to get out of the pressure. Forster even had to struggle to ward off Bruno Fernandes’ shot from outside the penalty box in the 25th minute.
De Gea made a great save in the 27th minute. The reflex of the goalkeeper from Spain was able to ward off Ivan Perisic’s header.
Marcus Rashford managed to grab Fernandes’ pass towards the far post in the 38th minute. However, the ball shot was pushed over by Forster who quickly narrowed the space.
Rashford again failed to score in the 40th minute. Forster dammed the ball shot again.
It was De Gea’s turn to act sip under MU’s goal. He parried a powerful shot from Perisic in the 42nd minute.
Rashford was finally able to tear Tottenham’s goal in the 44th minute. A cross from the area to the front of the Tottenham penalty box was met by Rashford, who then fired. MU 2-0 lead in the first half.
Tottenham stepped on the gas early in the second half. The home team’s attacks were quite troublesome for The Red Devils.
The Lilywhites were finally able to reduce the lag to 1-2 in the 56th minute. A mess in the MU penalty box was completed by Pedro Porro’s hard shot.
MU almost increased the advantage a minute later. From a very close distance, Bruno Fernandes’ shot hit the bar.
Son Heung-min missed the chance in the 65th minute. In a free position, the man from South Korea failed to direct the shot at MU’s goal.
Again, Tottenham’s golden opportunity was wasted in the 68th minute. In a free position to welcome Perisic’s cross, Eric Dier’s header went wide of the goal.
Tottenham were finally able to equalize the score to 2-2 in the 79th minute. Son tore De Gea’s goal after grabbing Harry Kane’s pass which headed for the far post.
MU tried to increase the pressure on the Tottenham defense. Even though he worked hard, there were no more goals until the game was over.
