Tottenham fail in their bid to sign Marcus Rashford as the Man Utd star wants to fight for the future ahead of new contract talks

MARCUS RASHFORD has turned down a possible move to Tottenham because he wants to stay at Manchester United, according to reports.

Spurs are interested in the England international as they look to bolster their front row with a versatile striker.

Antonio Conte’s side feel they could help Rashford get back to their best after enduring a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.

According to The Times, Tottenham have been told the 24-year-old wants to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Rashford is reportedly hoping to impress new boss Erik ten Hag ahead of talks over a new contract.

Having started last season with a shoulder injury, Rashford only started 13 Premier League games.

His contract has one more year, with United set to open talks later this summer.

Ten Hag is on vacation and has not yet contacted his players.

But there is hope that the Dutchman can get Rashford’s career back on track.

United are expected to beef up their squad this summer, with Spurs target Christian Eriksen on their wish list.

Club bosses are hopeful their new manager can get more out of his current crop, with Rashford identified as a player who can produce much better performances with better guidance.

The local hero will have a chance to impress on the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

Meanwhile, Spurs appear ready to part ways with striker Steven Bergwijn.

The Dutchman has admitted he wants to leave north London for more regular first-team football.

As well as more striker options, Tottenham aim to strengthen their defense this summer.

The Lilywhites are interested in Villarreal defender Pau Torres, and Giovani Lo Celso could be used as a fake weight in a deal.

Tottenham have so far completed two transfers this summer, welcoming free agents Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
