Tottenham defender Joe Rodon moves to French side Rennes on seasonal loan with £17m option to buy

Tottenham defender Joe Rodon moves to French side Rennes on loan for the season, with an option for the Ligue 1 side to make the Welsh star’s £17m move permanent.

Tottenham defender Joe Rodon completed his move to French side Rennes on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old Welsh centre-back made just three Premier League appearances last season for Antonio Conte’s side and is out of contention for a starting spot.

The Ligue 1 side have a £17m option to buy the 28-cap international.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has allowed defender Joe Rodon to leave for French side Rennes on a season-long loan: the Ligue 1 club have a £17m option to buy the central half.

The club tweeted: ‘Joe Rodon has joined Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on loan for the 2022/23 season, with the option to make the move permanent. Good luck Joe!

One of his nine appearances in all competitions last season for Spurs was a game against Rennes in the European Conference League in September.

Rodon is interested in regular first-team football ahead of this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

The arrival of central defender Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona had pushed him further down the club’s pecking order.

Tottenham remain interested in offloading Giovani Lo Celso, who is a target for Villarreal, Japhet Tanganga, who is discussing a loan to AC Milan, Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks.

Young Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr may also go out on loan.
