Toti, the day of judgement: the four scenarios that the Court of Appeal can establish today

Indeed, the latest annotation of the Guardia di Finanza, a document among the documents filed with the Review Court on theaffair Toti-Cozzani-Primocanale-Esselunga, could lead to new disputes, such as false invoicing, or in any case to more serious accusations regarding corruption and illicit financing of political parties, crimes already contested by the prosecutors.

It should be remembered that the now well-known meeting in the offices of the Region on March 17, 2022, according to what was written down in black and white by the military of the yellow flames, had “allowed: the “Toti per Bucci” list, and for it the Giovanni Toti Liguria Committee, to stipulate advertising contracts with Primocanale TV Spa worth 5 thousand to benefit from 500 passages on the big screen during the electoral campaign for the mayor of Genoa, obtaining a total of 6,060 passages – worth 50 thousand euros, ndr – to Primocanale to conclude with Esselunga a contract of 50 thousand additional to the 180 thousand contracts already in place between Terrazza Colombo Spa and Media Italia Spa (a company linked to Esselunga) for the use of the signs (fixed and large screen) placed on Terrazza Colombo (180 thousand); to Esselunga to obtain from the competent offices of the Liguria Region the “unblocking” of practices relating to the creation of a new sales point in Genoa”.

Just yesterday Esselunga reiterated in a long note that “according to its Code of Ethics and Conduct and Group compliance, it is not permitted in any way to finance political parties or election campaigns”. And it also specified that “the contract for the purchase of advertising space on Primocanale and Terrazza Colombo has not been backdated”, as the financiers instead hypothesize.

Again, “as for commercial advertising on television, 10 advertising campaigns were agreed and carried out, all tracked, by virtue of a contract signed on 28 July 2022 for a total of 50 thousand euros with the first one taking place on 4 August 2022. All demonstrated by documentary evidence. Any different interpretation is unfounded. The Company reiterates that the acquisition of all advertising spaces at national and local level, including those negotiated with Primocanale, is managed by the media center, Media Italia SpA, which has an annual mandate with Esselunga and is not part of the Group”.
