TotalEnergies Faces Investigation by Competition Council for Anti-Competitive Practices in Hydrocarbons Market

Among the nine companies operating in the hydrocarbons market, TotalEnergies was notified on July 3 by the investigation services of the Competition Council (CC).

Indeed, the latter stated that they had sufficiently conclusive elements, characterizing the existence of anti-competitive practices committed on the markets for the supply, storage and distribution of diesel and petrol. An identical notification was also sent to the professional association bringing together companies in the hydrocarbons sector.

TotalEnergies was quick to react to inform its shareholders and the general public, thus clearly expressing its desire to cooperate fully with the CC investigation services and to prepare the appropriate response elements. In its press release, TotalEnergies also reaffirmed its attachment to the rules of competition law, in accordance with its Code of Conduct. TotalEnergies is the 3th player in the distribution of petroleum products and services in Morocco where it holds an estimated market share of 15%. The company generates nearly 600 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs, and markets 1.7 million tonnes of petroleum products, while having more than 380 service stations, including 10 on the motorways.

The hydrocarbons sector has been repeatedly singled out by the CC for lack of transparency. With its last press release of August 3, the CC sends a new signal to the players concerned who play a strategic role in the national economy, with a view to promoting transparency in their practices and complying with the rules of fair competition.
