JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – A total solar eclipse (GMT) will occur on April 8 2024, making several areas of the earth dark for a few minutes.

A total solar eclipse is a phenomenon when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, thereby covering the entire surface of the Sun, which should be visible from Earth.

When this phenomenon occurs, the sky will be dark like dawn/dusk, but not for days, but only for a few minutes.

There is an explosion on the sun during a total solar eclipse

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said there would be a solar explosion (solar flare) which was visible during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

For your information, solar flare or solar flares are giant explosions in the sun that send energy, light and high-speed particles into space.

According to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), these solar explosions can be seen when the view of the Sun from Earth is blocked by the Moon and leaves the edge.

“It is on this edge that Earth can see the edge of the Sun’s plasma appearing to explode,” wrote BMKG on Monday (1/4/2024).

BMKG said that the natural phenomenon of explosions in the sun always affects the Earth’s magnetosphere.

Explosions in the sun, explained BMKG, are caused by internal activity in the sun because the level of solar activity, which experiences ups and downs during the 11-year cycle, will reach its peak in 2024.

“Atmospheric experts around the world don’t yet know the exact cause, but it most likely involves magnetic forces or nuclear reactions within the sun,” continued BMKG.

Effects of Solar Explosions on Earth

BMKG explained that the influence of solar activity (explosion) on Earth depends on the strength of the explosion.

Solar explosions can have an impact on Earth’s magnetism, namely in the form of Earth’s magnetic storms (geomagnetic storm).
