Jakarta – On April 8 2024, there will be a Total Solar Eclipse (GMT), which will occur ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah.
Bosscha Observatory, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), explains the Total Solar Eclipse which will occur on that date.
Reported on an Instagram account bosschaobservatory, Wednesday, April 3 2024, a solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are in a straight line in space. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun.
Considering the small diameter of the Moon, the path of the Moon’s shadow that falls on the Earth’s surface when an eclipse occurs only covers a small area on Earth.
Then, because of the dynamics of the Earth’s rotation, the area through which the eclipse passes will be different on each occasion. The total solar eclipse which will occur on April 8 will pass through the South Pacific, Central America and North America.
The eclipse will occur at around 17.45-18.49 UTC or coincides with midnight in Indonesia.
The process of an eclipse is actually one of the topics in the Jayabaya Prediction. Prabu Jayabaya (1135-1159) was the king of the Kediri kingdom. He is known for his writing, namely the Jayabaya Prediction.
There are several manuscripts containing Jayabaya Predictions, including Serat Jayabaya Musarar, Serat Pranitiwakya, and so on. Apart from that, it is also mentioned in the Babad Tanah Jawi.
In one of the stanzas of Jayabaya’s prediction is written:
“There are many reasons. The wrong season of rain. There are many earthquakes and eclipses. The power is different. Death is worthless. In a thousand years, eight hundred years ago, the land of Java was destroyed, Ratu Kara Murka Kuthila disappeared”.
The translation:
“There are many events and occurrences in nature and in the life of human society that are extraordinary. The rainy season is irregular and often comes with high rainfall (floods) to no rainfall at all (drought).”
“Earthquakes often occur and claim many lives, livestock and property, as well as mysterious natural phenomena, namely lunar eclipses and solar eclipses.”
In the Jayabaya Prophecy it is said that a period full of disaster will come. The mountains will erupt, the earth will shake, the seas and rivers will overflow. This will be a time of great suffering.
A time of arbitrariness and indifference. When cunning people rule, and good people will be oppressed.
“But, after that most difficult time, a new era will come, an era full of splendor and glory. The Golden Age of the archipelago. And that new era will come after the arrival of the Fair Queen, or Satria Piningit,” explained Masud Thoyib Adiningrat, Javanese Culture who is also the Commander of the Jayakarta Duchy.
