Total Lunar Eclipse, Peak Phase in Solo Raya This Evening

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO – The people of Solo Raya or the former Surakarta Residency could witness the peak phase of the phenomenon moon eclipse total on Wednesday (26/5) at 18.18 WIB.

Head of the Assalaam Islamic Modern Islamic Boarding School (PPMI) Observatory, AR Sugeng Riyadi, said that this year there will be two lunar eclipses, namely total lunar eclipse will occur on Wednesday (26/5) and a partial or partial lunar eclipse will occur on November 19, 2021.

The natural phenomenon of total lunar eclipse (GBT) will be present and can be witnessed from all regions of Indonesia, on Wednesday (26/5) after Maghrib or 15 Syawal 1442 H.

Sugeng Riyadi explained, the lunar eclipse phenomenon actually started when the moon had not yet risen on the eastern horizon, namely the first contact of P1 Penumbra at 15.47.38 WIB and ended when the last contact P4 Penumbra was at 20.49.47 WIB “In plain view, we can see the eclipse during the U1 Umbra phase at 16.44.58 WIB to U4 at 19.52.25 WIB,” Sugeng said as written in a press release, Tuesday (25/5).

However, because the position of the moon is still below the eastern horizon of the Solo Raya region, people can only watch it before Maghrib or starting at 17.25.22 WIB in the rising position of the moon in the east, slightly to the right (south). As soon as the moon rises, the position of the moon is already covered by the earth’s surface, aka an eclipse.

“However, in reality, we can only observe the moon after 5 to 10 minutes because the eastern horizon is covered with trees or buildings and even the expanse of Mount Lawu,” Sugeng explained.

For Muslims, he continued, the most ideal time to witness a lunar eclipse is after Maghrib prayer which is continued with Khusuf prayer (lunar eclipse prayer) and eclipse sermons. For example, the entire series of worship ends at 18.00 WIB, then the view to the east of the position of the moon is quite high and easy to see with the eye.

“The picture when viewed from Solo Raya and in-zoom with the camera, the moon will appear red in the left or south of our view, “he explained.

Sugeng added, the totality phase of the lunar eclipse this time will occur at 18.11.28 WIB – 18.25.56 WIB, and the peak phase will occur at 18.18.42 WIB. If the sky is clear, then the moon will be very beautiful and reddened for about 14 minutes 29 seconds.

Slowly then the moon will enter a partial phase, and around 19.15 WIB, the color of the moon will appear like a red-and-white flag, where the upper side is red and the lower side is gray.

All phases of the partial eclipse will end at 19.52.25 WIB, and the moon will return to its normal full moon color. However, actually the moon is still in the penumbra eclipse stage or faintly until 20.49.47 WIB. After 20.49.47 WIB the color and status of the moon will return to the normal full moon.
