JAYAPURA, iNews.id – Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG) mentions natural events moon eclipse the total on the upcoming Wednesday (26/5/2021) can be seen safely by the public at Papua. The time ranges from 17.46 WIT – 22.51 WIT.
Head of the Center for Technical Seismology, Potential Geophysics and BMKG Timestamps, Rahmat Triyono said that people in Papua can see a total lunar eclipse without having to use special glasses.
“It can be seen if the weather conditions are clear and cloudy since the beginning of the process, namely 17.46 WIT until the end at 22.51 WIT,” said Rahmat Triyono in his statement, Monday (24/5/2021).
According to Rahmat, phase one or the beginning of the lunar eclipse starts at 17.46.12 WIT which crosses the central part of Papua, so that observers in Papua Province can witness the entire process of this total lunar eclipse.
“The peak phase of the total lunar eclipse occurred at 20:18.43 WIT, it can be seen in all parts of Indonesia, except in a small part of Riau, parts of West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh,” he said.
Lunar eclipses, he said, are events in which sunlight is blocked by the earth, so that not everything up to the moon is seen from the earth.
This phenomenon is one of the consequences of the dynamic movement of the position of the sun, earth, and moon. It only occurs during the full moon phase and can be predicted in advance.
In addition, a total lunar eclipse occurs when the position of the sun-earth-moon is aligned, this occurs when the moon is in the umbra of the earth. As a result, when the peak of a total lunar eclipse occurs, the moon will appear red or blood moon.
