The French tennis championships in 2022 have received their first scandal. This when the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in frustration over a lost point against the Russian Yekaterina Alexandrova threw her racket in the gravel. Then it did not feel better than that the racket bounced up on the stand where it landed in the audience, and afterwards a child – who was so close to being hit by the racket – was heard crying.
However, 31-year-old Irina-Camelia Begu escaped with a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct by the referee and had to continue playing, winning the meeting in the second round with 2-1 in sets.
