This weekend the Ligue 1 summit was suspended between Lyon and Marseille after just four minutes of play. The reason was that a Lyon supporter threw a water bottle from the stands that hit Marseille captain Dimitri Payet in the head.
Now the support has been sentenced. According to the French news site RMC Sport, the criminal court in Lyon on Tuesday sentenced the supporter to a six-month suspended sentence, suspension from all arenas for five years and three euros in symbolic fines. One euro is to be paid to Payet, one euro to Marseille and one euro to the French football association LFP.
However, the French Football Association’s investigation against Lyon, which could result in sanctions against the club, has not been completed. A decision on this will be made during a meeting of the French Football Association’s disciplinary committee on December 8, where Lyons’ responsibilities and the fate of the match will be discussed.
