Toshiba Crop Unit Hacked, Some Company Data Is Lost

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Unit Toshiba The Corp said it was hacked by extortion group or ransomware DarkSide, the group believed to be responsible for the recent Colonial Pipeline (BBMAS) attack.

Toshiba Tec Corp, which makes products such as barcode printers and is valued at $ 2.3 billion, was hacked by DarkSide. The incident caused a small amount of job data belonging to the company, which was valued at US $ 2.3 billion, to disappear.

A screenshot from DarkSide submitted by the cybersecurity firm said more than 740 gigabytes of information had been compromised, including passports and other personal information.

“There are about 30 groups within DarkSide trying to hack into companies all the time and this time they were successful with Toshiba,” said Takashi Yoshikawa, senior malware analyst at Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions.

He said companies have become more vulnerable to cyber attacks since the implementation of work from home.

Reuters was unable to access the DarkSide public site. Security researchers said some of the DarkSide sites were inaccessible.

Recently there has been an increase in ransomware attacks. One of them is in the form of data encryption hacks that can be accessed with cryptocurrency payments.

They also release stolen data more and more frequently and threaten their targets, unless they are paid more.
