Hello everyone, although the weather is clearly entering fall, there has been torrential rain that feels like mid-summer in the southern region.
It was a heavy rain that raised concerns about untimely flooding, and rain clouds spread throughout the country overnight.
Today’s (16th) 9 o’clock news begins with a report by meteorological reporter Min-kyung Kim.

A whopping 95 mm of ‘extreme heavy rain’ poured down in an hour around 10 a.m. in this area, off the southern coast of Saryangdo Island in Tongyeong, where yellow muddy water was pushed out.
At the same time, in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, heavy rain of 66mm per hour flooded even the roadside stop.
Heavy rain of 60 mm fell in one hour in Busan.
This is because very strong rain clouds came from the southern coastal area following the flow of low pressure.
Recently, in the skies over the Korean Peninsula, there was a long water vapor passage created as the cold autumn air that began to expand competed with the summer air, which played a role in developing rain clouds like in midsummer.
Today, a lot of rain fell in the southern coastal area, up to around 150mm, and Chungcheong and southern regions also recorded rainfall of around 50mm.
Rain will spread throughout the country overnight.

Heavy rain of around 30mm per hour is expected to fall in various places until dawn tomorrow (17th), with heavy rain of up to 60mm expected in Chungcheong and the southern region.
The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that up to 150 mm of rain would fall on the southern coast and near Jirisan Mountain, up to 120 mm in Gyeongbuk and Chungcheong, and 20 to 80 mm in Seoul and other parts of the country.
As the number of mourners increases ahead of the Chuseok holiday, caution is needed, such as avoiding access to underpasses near valleys or rivers.
This rain will gradually stop starting from the central region tomorrow morning.
