Torrential rain, accompanied by hail, hit Banite municipality in Smolyan district. For “Focus”, the mayor of Banite, Pavlin Belchev, reported that the hail in certain places on the territory of the municipality was quite intense and large in size.
“The largest was in the village of Malka Arda, where the size of the ice pieces reached 5 cm. And there was the greatest damage. The agricultural production in the village was 100% destroyed. There were broken roof tiles on houses, as well as broken windows of cars, including a bus. Only in Malka Arda there was such a large hailstorm, as there was also in the villages of Oryakhovets, Banite, Vishnevo, but it was much smaller there and the damage is more limited,” explained Belchev.
The hail lasted about 10 minutes, accompanied by torrential rain, but the problem was the hail cloud. There are no reports of injured people on the territory of Banite municipality as a result of the hail and downpour. They are still assessing the damage from the hailstorm. Belchev expressed hope that the normal rhythm of life in the affected settlements will be restored quickly.
