Torrent overflows in Prato area, evacuation of lower floors ordered

(ANSA) – MONTEMURLO (PRATO), 08 SEPTEMBER – The Stregale torrent has overflowed in Montemurlo (Prato), the evacuation of the ground floors of the houses has been ordered. The Municipality announced this, explaining that there are “critical issues also in Oste”. The town was hit by the flood of 2 November 2023: at the time, an 85-year-old woman died in her flooded house in Bagnolo and an 84-year-old woman due to illness. In the last 12 hours, the Municipality also explains, more than 100 mm of water has fallen in Montemurlo. Massa Marittima, in the Grosseto area, was then hit by a downpour, where according to what was announced by the governor Eugenio Giani, over 100 mm of rain fell this evening. “The stormy area over southern Tuscany (Grosseto and lower Siena) – explains the President of the Region – continues to bring rainfall at times intense with cumulative, in the last hour, up to 50-70 mm (province of Grosseto) and up to 20-40 (province of Siena)”. “In the next hour more scattered rainfall is expected, more consistent in the southern part of Grosseto, eastern Siena and lower Arezzo where the maximum cumulative, during storms, could reach 40-60 mm or locally higher in the Grosseto area”. In Piombino instead a whirlwind hit the port causing one injury that does not appear to be serious. It is a security guard: he was inside a booth at the entrances to the port that was overturned.
